A modern guide to living as a sensitive - seeing, hearing, and feeling beyond the veil.
They say we all have intuition, a gut feeling, a knowing. But for some of us, that intuition speaks louder, clearer, and more vividly than we ever expected. For as long as I can remember, I’ve seen flickers of light that others didn’t, heard whispers in empty rooms, and felt waves of emotion that weren’t my own. It wasn’t until I discovered the world of the Clairs Clairvoyance, Clairaudience, and Clairsentience, that everything finally made sense.
In this post, I want to share what it’s like to live as a modern-day sensitive, how I discovered my psychic senses, and how you can begin tuning into your own.

What Are “The Clairs”?
In the realm of psychic and intuitive abilities, the term “Clair” comes from the French word clair, meaning “clear.” When combined with various senses, it describes different forms of extrasensory perception and ways of receiving spiritual, energetic, or psychic information beyond the five physical senses.
There are seven commonly recognised Clairs, and each one corresponds to a particular form of spiritual reception. Some people naturally possess one dominant Clair; others develop multiple over time through practice and spiritual openness.
Clairvoyance – Clear Seeing
The ability to receive intuitive or psychic information visually, either in the mind’s eye (also known as the third eye) or occasionally as physical manifestations.
You may experience:
- Mental images, visions, symbols, or colours
- Dreams that feel prophetic or deeply symbolic
- Seeing shadows, auras, or flashes of light
- Spirit appearances or apparitions
Often mistaken for imagination, clairvoyance is actually a visual psychic download — especially strong during meditation, dream states, or paranormal investigation.
Clairaudience – Clear Hearing
The ability to hear messages from the spirit world or your higher self. These may be internal (like thoughts) or external (like whispers, names, music, or sounds with no physical source).
You may experience:
- Hearing your name when no one is there
- Sudden music, tones, or phrases in your mind
- Messages during meditation or sleep
- Audible spirit voices in EVP sessions
This is a common Clair for those who channel, use mediumship, or receive spirit guidance through words or sound.
Clairsentience – Clear Feeling
The ability to feel energies, emotions, or sensations that do not originate from yourself. This Clair is often associated with empaths and sensitives.
You may experience:
- Sudden emotions that aren’t yours
- Feeling heavy or elated in specific spaces
- Getting chills, tightness, or pressure around spirit energy
- Deep intuitive knowing through the body
Many paranormal investigators unknowingly rely on clairsentience when sensing spirit presence in haunted locations.
Claircognizance – Clear Knowing
The sudden “just knowing” of facts, truths, or outcomes without having learned them through normal means. It feels like an inner truth or download of information.
You may experience:
- Immediate understanding or answers
- Knowing someone’s intentions without them saying anything
- Predicting outcomes or events
- Feeling “this is right” or “this will happen” without logic
Often overlooked because it doesn’t involve visions or voices, this Clair is powerful and very common in intuitive thinkers, healers, and leaders.
Clairalience – Clear Smelling
The ability to smell scents that aren’t physically present often spirit-related or symbolic.
You may experience:
- Smelling a deceased loved one’s perfume or tobacco
- Scent of flowers, alcohol, smoke, or decay without a source
- Sudden fragrance tied to a memory or warning
Many sensitives report this during paranormal investigations or visitations — especially around anniversaries or emotionally charged moments.
Clairgustance – Clear Tasting
The ability to taste something without putting anything in your mouth is usually connected to spirit presence or energy work.
You may experience:
- A sudden metallic, sweet, sour, or bitter taste
- Tasting a favourite dish of a deceased loved one
- Strong tastes tied to intuitive impressions or memories
This Clair is less common but can be deeply validating during spirit contact sessions.
Clairtangency (Psychometry) – Clear Touch
The ability to receive information through physical touch, especially of objects, photographs, or locations.
You may experience:
- Picking up emotional or historical impressions from antiques or clothing
- Holding an item and seeing visions, names, or dates
- Touching walls or doorways and feeling waves of past energy
Often used by psychics during readings — especially with personal items or heirlooms.

My Awakening as a Sensitive: Embracing the Clairs Living as a Modern-Day Sensitive
For much of my life, I felt things deeply. I was told I was too emotional, too sensitive, too weird. But what I now know is that these feelings were the early signs of something more of an intuitive gift waiting patiently to be recognised.
A gift that would eventually manifest through what are known as The Clairs: Clairvoyance (clear seeing), Clairaudience (clear hearing), and Clairsentience (clear feeling).
In my early twenties, the pieces began to fall into place. I started having dreams that didn’t feel like dreams. They came with messages some wrapped in symbolism, others startlingly direct that only made sense months or even years later. I’d have sudden gut instincts that proved eerily accurate. I would feel an energy shift the moment I walked into a room. I heard whispers, knicks, and footsteps that no one else could hear. I picked up on other people’s emotions as if they were my own. I wasn’t losing my mind, I was tuning in. I was waking up to the energetic language of the world around me.
This awakening wasn’t sudden; it was a gradual unfolding, like a veil being pulled back layer by layer. And in that unfolding, I realised something else: Intuition runs in my blood.
I truly believe intuitive gifts can be inherited passed down through generations like heirlooms of the soul. For me, that lineage is clear. My mother is also sensitive, someone deeply attuned to the moods and energies that shift in silence. And before her, my great-grandmother read tea leaves, a powerful form of divination I now use regularly in my own practice. I like to think that each time I read the leaves or shuffle a guidance deck, I’m honouring that ancestral line. I’m continuing a tradition of listening to the unseen.
“Looking back, I realise my sensitivity wasn’t something to ‘get over’ — it was the compass I was meant to follow all along.”
Growing Up on Spirit-Laced Soil
I was raised on a 130-year-old farm in rural New South Wales, a place where time seemed to stand still and the veil between worlds often felt thin. From a young age, I could sense things others couldn’t. I’d see shadowy figures walking the fence line, hear voices whispering my name at dusk, and feel cold spots in rooms that should have been warm. As a child, I saw animals, horses, pigs, sheep roaming the paddocks, animals that weren’t there. I’d hear the footsteps of pets long gone echoing through the hallway in the still of night.
It was never something I spoke about. I didn’t have the language, and I didn’t want to be dismissed. But these moments stayed with me. Looking back now, I can see that my childhood was steeped in intuition. I just didn’t know it yet.

The Radio Analogy: Tuning In
When I began to embrace my sensitivity in my mid-twenties, I started to understand that these abilities weren’t random. I describe the experience like tuning an old-fashioned radio: each station is a frequency of the spirit world. When I tune in clearly, I receive images, words, sensations. Sometimes it’s a strong, clear signal. Other times it’s static and distortion. But the more I practiced, the stronger the reception became.

Living with the Clairs
Now, before any reading or investigation, I center myself. I often have dreams leading up to investigations, faces, places, even names. Sometimes these connections come together during the investigation. Sometimes it takes weeks, months, even years to make sense. But they always come back.
I try to document everything: journal entries, voice notes, dreams, flashes of insight. It’s all data. It’s all part of the tapestry. Because when the veil is thin and the senses open, we’re not just experiencing a haunting — we’re becoming part of the bigger story, and at the time we might not know it until later.
Clairvoyance – Clear Seeing
My journey with clairvoyance has been rich and surprising. I don’t see auras or spirits constantly, but when I do, it’s vivid and undeniable.
- Stannum House, Tenterfield: While ascending the spiral staircase, I sensed the presence of children. I didn’t see anything at the time but later, reviewing footage, I was shocked to see the face of a small child staring back from the shadows behind the banister.
- Wolston Farmhouse, Brisbane: Standing under the towering fig tree, I was hit with a rush of emotion and vivid imagery. I saw children laughing and playing among the branches, climbing, swinging, as if watching a scene from a different time unfold before me.
- Mirror Scrying: In ritual sessions at home, I prepare by lighting a candle and setting my intention. As I gaze into the black mirror, I begin to see images of faces I’ve never seen, places I’ve never been, and flashes of colour and movement that seem to pulse with meaning. It’s as though an old film reel begins to play behind my eyes.
- Arrowtown, NZ: In a preserved Chinese settlement hut, I witnessed a full-body apparition of a man seated quietly by a fireplace. He looked almost peaceful, and the energy felt calm, reflective. It was one of my clearest clairvoyant moments.
- Paris Catacombs: Among the rows of skulls and bones, I had a moment of strange peace. The way the bones were arranged felt almost ceremonial. My mind filled with visions of people placing them with reverence, as if performing a rite long forgotten.
- Aradale Asylum: In the men’s ward, I caught sight of a shadowy figure moving in a locked cell. I felt compelled to watch, as if someone was silently observing me in return.
Clairaudience – Clear Hearing
Clairaudience is perhaps the most startling gift because it’s often sudden. You don’t see it coming.
- Stannum House: While in the Josephine Room, I distinctly heard children giggling. The room was silent, the energy still, but the sound came through like a memory reawakening.
- Wolston Farmhouse: The names "Susan" and "Suzette" floated into my mind like whispers. I hadn’t heard them before, but they scratched at my consciousness like someone trying to be remembered.
- Maryborough, Criterion Hotel: During a spirit board session, the planchette spelled out my name, and a nearby group using a different board also received “Ben.” The atmosphere shifted dramatically. Later, during EVP playback, a male voice clearly said, “No” and “I said no!” The tone was sharp, possessive.
- Aradale Asylum: As I walked the corridors, I could hear faint footsteps that didn’t match our group. At one point, the echo of heels behind me made me freeze — an auditory imprint of a long-gone matron, perhaps.
- Mirror Scrying Invocation: Though I wasn’t expecting it, during one invocation I heard a low hum that didn’t come from the room. It felt like a response — like someone had answered the call.
Clairsentience – Clear Feeling
My strongest Clair. The body always knows before the mind catches up.
- Criterion Hotel, Maryborough: Outside, near the alley, I was suddenly overwhelmed with sadness. I later learned that two sisters, one aged 18 months and one 12 years, had died and were buried nearby. During the same investigation, I felt a spirit named John merge with my energy. I began laughing uncontrollably. It wasn’t me. It was him.
- Aradale Asylum: Even before entering the grounds, my body responded. A wave of emotion, grief, anticipation, dread rolled over me. In the ECT room, I stood still, trembling as if absorbing the pain of those who had suffered there. My arm tingled as if someone was touching me softly. Goosebumps covered me during an EVP session where I felt the spirit of Daniel, a gentle man with a tragic story connected to queerness and rejection.
- Royal Bull’s Head Inn, Toowoomba: The sensation of being watched was so strong it felt like a physical force. No sounds, no visuals, just that creeping chill down my spine.
- Military Museum, Maryborough: The smell of gunpowder hit me first. Then the fatigue. It was as if the air itself was carrying the memory of battle and loss.
- Mirror Scrying Sessions: I’ve learned that the mood in a room tells a story. Before the images come, I feel the shift, a tightening of energy, an emotional pull, sometimes calm, sometimes intrusive.
Clairtangency (Psychometry) – Clear Touch
My journey with clairtangency, also known as psychometry, has opened a whole new dimension of intuitive connection. This ability allows insight to be received by touching an object and tuning into the energy it holds. Sometimes subtle, sometimes powerful, the impressions that come through often feel like echoes from another time or dimension.
Spirit Circle with Nicky M, Crossroads With Spirit:
During a recent Spirit Circle led by my dear friend and gifted medium Nicky M, I had the opportunity to experience clairtangency in its most profound form. We were invited to participate in a psychometry exercise, each handed a sealed envelope containing a photograph we hadn't seen.
As I held the envelope, I grounded myself and allowed the energy to speak. What followed was a vivid wave of impressions. I sensed themes of rebirth and transformation, a clearing away of what was no longer needed, making room for lightness and liberation. I saw expansive skies and the solar system, suggesting movement, travel, and destiny on a cosmic scale.
Then, it shifted. I heard the haunting sound of a French opera singer’s voice graceful, mournful, and timeless. A damp, musty scent flooded my awareness, evoking images of old stone walls and long-forgotten spaces, layered with history and memory.
When the envelope was opened, the photograph inside was revealed: a stunning image of Nicky by the ocean, hand outstretched, cradling the setting sun. It was deeply symbolic, and many of the impressions I’d received resonated strongly with her life, her journey, and the personal transformation she’s been embracing.
Clairtangency is humbling. It reminds me that everything holds a story. Every object, every place, every person carries energetic imprints waiting to be heard. That night reminded me of the quiet power of touch and how spirit often speaks not in grand gestures but in subtle, sacred whispers.

Final Thoughts
My awakening didn’t happen overnight. It unfolded slowly, gently, until I could no longer ignore the call. The Clairs weren’t something I learned, they were something I remembered and opened up to. Something I finally had the courage to claim.
Through every EVP, every whisper, every feeling that stops me mid-step, I’ve learned that this isn’t about proving the paranormal. It’s about honouring it, because I already believe.
So I continue to show up. To listen. To see. To feel. To respect. And most of all, to tell the stories that time has forgotten.
Maybe you’ve felt this too those quiet nudges, the chills on your skin, the dreams that seem too vivid to ignore. You’re not alone, and you’re not imagining it. Your intuition may be calling you, just as mine did. All it asks is that you listen.
Trusting Your Gut
There’s a voice within us quiet, persistent, and often overlooked. It doesn’t shout or demand attention. It whispers. It tugs at the edge of your awareness. It’s that uneasy feeling when something’s not right, the surge of knowing without evidence, the pull toward something or someone you can’t logically explain. That voice is your intuition. And learning to trust it can change everything.
For years, I dismissed those gut feelings. I second-guessed myself, rationalised away the warnings, and doubted the signs. But every time I ignored them, I paid the price emotionally, spiritually, even physically. It took time, experience, and a few hard lessons before I understood: my gut wasn’t lying. It was protecting me. Guiding me.
In recent years, I’ve finally learned to stop pushing back against my gut instinct. I’ve come to understand that things happen for a reason even when we don’t see it right away. If I’m late, then maybe I’m late for a reason. That delay, that redirection, might be something bigger at play.
I remember one time, I was riding my scooter through familiar streets when that little voice crept in “Don’t go that way.” It was a route I’d taken countless times. Nothing ever happened before. But today felt different. I ignored it. Ten minutes later, I was lying on the pavement, blood everywhere, trying to understand what had just happened. The usual path had been altered. A gap in the road I hadn’t noticed sent me flying over the handlebars and into a tree. It wasn’t just an accident it was a lesson in trust. My gut had spoken. I hadn’t listened.
Intuition isn’t just a feeling. It’s a survival instinct. It’s ancestral. It’s sacred. Some call it a sixth sense, others a spiritual gift. For me, it’s a trusted compass sharpened by my work in the paranormal, honed through the Clairs, and strengthened with each experience that confirmed: I knew before I knew.
Maybe you’ve felt it too. That sudden urge to turn left instead of right. That “off” feeling when someone is smiling but something feels wrong. That inner knowing that defies logic but proves true every time.
The more you listen, the louder it becomes. The more you trust, the clearer it gets.
So, the next time your gut speaks, pause. Breathe. Listen. That’s not anxiety or doubt. That might just be your soul trying to keep you safe… or lead you toward something bigger than you imagined.

How the Clairs Appear in Everyday Life
Not every intuitive experience is dramatic. Often, the Clairs show up quietly — folded into the rhythm of daily life, whispering through the ordinary. You don’t need to be a psychic medium or a seasoned paranormal investigator to notice them. These subtle nudges of insight are available to anyone who’s willing to slow down and tune in.
Clairvoyance – Clear Seeing
- You might get sudden mental images or visual flashes — like a loved one’s face appearing in your mind moments before they call.
- Maybe you have vivid dreams filled with symbols, colours, or scenes that later play out in real life.
- You might see shadows flicker in your peripheral vision or strange light anomalies that no one else notices.
- During meditation or moments of reflection, visual downloads can arrive like a filmstrip across your inner eye. Real Life Clue: You “see” the answer before you speak it. You picture an event before it happens. You dream of someone, and they contact you the next day.
Clairaudience – Clear Hearing
- It might be a whisper of your name when the house is silent.
- A sudden lyric pops into your head and echoes the exact words you needed to hear.
- Sometimes it’s a voice you hear internally, a tone, a word, or a sentence that’s not your own, but feels like the truth.
- You might hear disembodied whispers, sounds, or voices especially in moments of stillness, meditation, or liminal spaces. Real Life Clue: A voice in your head says, “Turn back.” You hear something out loud, but no one else does. You hear music that seems to carry a message.
Clairsentience – Clear Feeling
- You walk into a space and your body reacts before your mind understands why.
- You get chills, tingles, heaviness, or pressure in certain places, especially those charged with energy or emotion.
- You feel emotional shifts around certain people or even objects without knowing their backstory. Real Life Clue: You suddenly feel sad, anxious, or euphoric for no apparent reason. You sense you’re being watched or comforted even when you’re alone.
Claircognizance – Clear Knowing
- A sudden thought drops into your mind fully formed, accurate, and without any reasoning behind it.
- You “just know” something’s about to happen… and then it does.
- This Clair is often mistaken for a sharp mind or quick instincts, but it’s deeper it bypasses logic and arrives like a download. Real Life Clue: You blurt out something that turns out to be true. You sense someone is lying without any evidence. You know a decision is right but can’t explain why.
Clairtangency (Psychometry) – Clear Touch
- You touch an old object, piece of clothing, or antique and feel a story, emotion, or image rush through you.
- This Clair connects you to the residual energy of people or events through physical contact.
- It’s especially powerful with heirlooms, photos, or items linked to grief or love. Real Life Clue: You pick up an item and feel dizzy, emotional, or see a mental flash. You get “vibes” from touching jewellery, furniture, or even handwritten letters.
Clairalience – Clear Smelling
- You suddenly smell your grandmother’s perfume long after she’s passed.
- The scent of tobacco or roses fills the air with no logical source.
- Spirit often uses scent to stir memory and signal their presence, especially when you're not expecting it. Real Life Clue: A smell floods your space, linked to someone who's passed. No one else notices it, but it instantly brings a presence to mind.
Clairgustance – Clear Tasting
- You taste something familiar like a favourite dish or candy when you haven’t eaten anything.
- This psychic sense is subtle but powerful, often tied to memory, grief, or spirit connection. Real Life Clue: You taste a dish your late loved one used to cook. The flavour brings emotion and a sense of presence.
And Here’s the Thing…
These experiences don’t always arrive during rituals, readings, or ghost hunts. They show up in traffic. In the supermarket aisle. Mid-conversation. In silence.
They come when you’re present enough to notice, and open enough to receive.
You don’t have to “be psychic” to be sensitive. You just have to honour what’s already speaking.
Maybe you’ve felt this too those quiet nudges, the chills on your skin, the dreams that seem too vivid to ignore.
"You’re not alone, and you’re not imagining it. Welcome to your awakening."
Developing Your Intuition: Tips from My Journey
Developing your intuitive senses is not about becoming someone else. It is about remembering who you are. These gifts already live within you. They do not always arrive as dramatic visions or booming voices. More often, they whisper. They require trust, patience, and practice. Here are some of the tools and insights that have supported me in awakening and strengthening what are known as The Clairs.
Keep a Journal of Impressions, Dreams, or “Weird Moments”
Your mind will second-guess, but your journal will not. Write down dreams, visions, body sensations, or synchronicities even if they don’t make sense at the time. I have often gone back months later to find uncanny validations in what I wrote. Patterns emerge. Spirit teaches in layers. Your journal becomes your personal archive of the unseen. Tip: Date your entries. Circle or highlight any that later come true or connect to real events.
Practice Meditation or Mindful Stillness
You cannot hear a whisper in a storm. The Clairs are subtle frequencies, and meditation is how you begin to tune your inner radio. Even just five minutes a day spent sitting quietly, focusing on your breath, or watching a candle flame can begin to create the inner stillness needed for your senses to speak. My personal practice includes soft instrumental music, candlelight, and breathwork before any spiritual session or investigation.
Use Divination Tools to Build Trust
Pendulums, tarot, oracle cards, black mirrors, or tea leaves are not magical shortcuts. They are mirrors. They help you bypass your logical mind and engage your intuitive knowing. These tools serve as a bridge between your internal wisdom and external validation, offering a physical anchor for intuitive downloads. For me, tea leaf reading connects deeply to my maternal lineage. The more I use it, the more clearly I see and hear beyond the physical patterns in the cup.
Protect Your Energy
If you feel everything, you must protect something, and that something is you. Grounding before spiritual work, visualising protective light, using smoke cleansing or salt baths, or even affirming “what’s not mine must leave” can help clear your field. I used to feel drained after investigations until I learned to cleanse my aura and set spiritual boundaries. Energy hygiene is essential, especially for clairsentients and empaths.
Ask Spirit Guides or Ancestors for Help
Your spirit team is always near, but they respect free will. When you ask for their support, you open the channel. I regularly invite my ancestors, spirit guides, and highest self to walk with me, guide me, and help sharpen my senses. Sometimes I light a candle, speak their names, or leave a small offering. The more I acknowledge the relationship, the louder and clearer the guidance becomes.
Be Patient with Yourself
There will be days when you feel like you are tapped into everything. Other days, you will doubt it all. This is part of the journey. Developing your intuitive senses is like tuning an old radio. Some days it is static. Some days it sings. Trust the process. Keep showing up. Your soul remembers.

Voices from the Veil: A Mother and a Medium
This month, I wanted to offer something a little different — a deeper conversation, a broader lens, and a shared journey. Living as a sensitive person isn't a solitary path. It's one woven through generations, friendships, and soul connections.
As I’ve explored my own relationship with the Clairs, I’ve been blessed to witness others around me awakening too. Some are just beginning to listen to the whispers. Others have long been speaking with spirit. This journey is as unique as the soul walking it.
So I invited two very special people to share their own experiences:
- My mum, Janet who is only just starting to understand her intuitive nature and what it means to live as a newly awakened sensitive. Her reflections are raw, honest, and incredibly relatable — especially for anyone who’s only just beginning to tune in.
- Nicky, my dear friend and trusted paranormal investigator. A gifted psychic medium, Nicky lives between worlds, bridging messages from the other side with compassion and clarity. Her voice offers insight for those further along the path — and encouragement for those wondering what might come next.
Together, their perspectives form a beautiful mirror: one of discovery, one of mastery — both rooted in the same sacred truth. That we are all more connected, more intuitive, more awake than we realise.
Here are their stories…
The Awakening Begins
To draw out Janet’s story, I asked her a series of questions. When did she first start to sense she might be intuitive? Was there a moment that made her stop and say wait a minute, this is real? How did it feel to tune into something beyond the physical — was it exciting, confusing, even a little frightening? Which of the clairs seemed to resonate with her most strongly? Did family history or my own spiritual path play any part in nudging her forward? What practices or moments of stillness help her feel connected? And finally, what advice would she give to others only just discovering their sensitivity — or to her younger self, if she could reach back through time?
Her answers became more than responses. They became the shape of an awakening, raw and honest, alive with both wonder and questioning.
This is Janet’s story.
For me, the real opening to the spirit world came during a trip to Stannum House in Tenterfield. I couldn’t believe what was happening — tears streaming down my face as I connected with the spirit of a lady. She felt so warm, so gentle, and she told me she was shy. Ben and his friend later said my face looked distorted, with orbs moving around me. I felt the warmth flow through me — from my heart down to my feet. She told me she had been a schoolteacher. Even now, I still find myself asking: did that really happen? But it was real. I know it was. That was the moment I realised I might be sensitive.
I kept saying over and over, wait a minute — did that really happen? I questioned myself so many times. Yet the emotions I felt, the joy, the happy, bubbly nature of the lady I connected with — those can’t be denied. That experience will stay with me forever.
At first, it was exciting but also scary. I’ve always known, deep down, that I had something, but I pushed it down, turned it off. When my grandmother passed away, I remember vividly waking to see her sitting on the end of my bed. She didn’t speak, she just looked at me as if to say, I’m at peace now, and then vanished. I told myself it was a dream, but I know it wasn’t.
Even as I sit here writing this, I feel the presence of eyes watching me. There is so much movement in this house. One day I heard a bell ring, yet we don’t own a bell. Later I was told it was a church bell. At the time I didn’t understand, but last week a dear friend passed away — and now it makes sense. The pieces click into place, like a puzzle.
The clairs I’m beginning to notice are clairsentience — I can feel their emotions, their passing, their presence — and claircognizance. Random knowing just drops in, out of nowhere. Perhaps more will reveal themselves as I open further.
Ben’s own path has helped me enormously. I needed that extra push, someone who understood. Without it, I felt alone, as though if I spoke of my experiences, people might think I’d lost my mind. I never believed in myself, never trusted what I was feeling. Now, with guidance, I can.
I don’t have elaborate practices. I simply sit in silence. I close my eyes, let my mind go blank, and listen. Sometimes, strange things happen. While writing for this blog, my eyes blurred, goosebumps covered me, and I felt a rush of electricity in my chest. Out of nowhere, I said the name Samantha. I don’t know any Samantha — but I feel her. I also know of a male spirit here named Willy. He loves the hallway. I was told he is Indigenous and buried nearby. As I write, I can hear a faint clock ticking, though there are no clocks in this room. They say it’s the clock of time. I’m not sure yet what that means.
If I could offer advice to someone my age who is only just realising they’re intuitive, I’d say this: find a group or a person who can help you understand. Don’t be afraid. Read, learn, and practise. The more you interact with your gift, the more natural it becomes. My journey is only just beginning.
And if I could speak to my younger self, I’d say: Accept your gift. Don’t be afraid. Believe it’s real.

Between Two Worlds
To draw out Nicky’s story, I asked her to look back and reflect. When did she first realise she was a psychic medium, and how did that feel as a child? What was the first undeniable experience that shifted everything? How do the clairs show up in her daily life, and which ones come most naturally? Were there moments in readings that profoundly moved her — or even changed her? What do people often misunderstand about working with spirit?
I wanted to know how she protects her energy, how she stays grounded and human while being a bridge between worlds, and what message she would offer to those just beginning to open to their own gifts.
Her answers carry the voice of experience: steady, clear, compassionate. They speak not only to the beauty of connection but also to the discipline, boundaries, and faith it requires.
This is Nicky’s story.
I realised I was a psychic medium when I was very small — around seven years old. At that age, it was both scary and fascinating. Something I saw and felt came to reality, and that absolutely freaked me out. But at the same time, it stirred a deep curiosity in me. I needed to understand what was happening.
My first undeniable spiritual experience came years later, during one of the hardest times of my life. I was highly stressed, riddled with anxiety, and I fell asleep. When I woke, there was an angel standing next to me. He was completely white, with curly hair, and he smiled at me. He didn’t have wings, but I knew instantly what he was. That moment changed everything. I had to know more — about angels, about spirit, about what I had just witnessed. It sent me on a journey of learning that has never really stopped.
For me, the clairs are always there. They don’t ever truly go away. But I’m not switched on 24 hours a day either — it depends on the person I’m with and what their soul has agreed to. The strongest for me has always been sight. I see spirit. I also hear them — noises, sounds, voices. Those are the two that come most naturally.
Some readings stay with me forever. Parents who have lost children — those are the ones that move me most deeply. It doesn’t matter if the child was a baby or an adult; their passing leaves such a profound wound. The most powerful, though, are the times when a parent comes whose child has taken their own life. It’s heartbreaking beyond words, but also one of the most beautiful and sacred connections I can offer. There’s healing in those moments that’s hard to explain, but I feel it every time.
Something people often misunderstand about this work is that Spirit isn’t just there to answer any question you want. People think I can just ask my guides anything — about life, decisions, outcomes — and they’ll hand over the answers. That’s not how it works. We’re here to live our lives. Spirit can guide, comfort, and support, but we still have to walk our own path.
Protection is vital. For me, it comes directly from my guardians. I also consciously ask for it, especially before and after I work. To stay grounded, I turn to simple things: standing barefoot on the grass, placing my hand on a tree, or even doing something ordinary like grocery shopping. Those everyday acts keep me calm, balanced, and connected to life here, while still allowing me to serve as a channel for spirit when I’m called to.
If I could offer one message to anyone just beginning to open to their gifts, it would be this: don’t give up. Have discipline, but also passion. Read as much as you can — books, articles, courses, whatever resonates. Trust yourself. Trust Spirit. Trust the universe. And above all, keep the faith.

A Word of Encouragement to Fellow Sensitives
If you’ve ever felt too emotional, too sensitive, or too spiritually aware you’re not alone. Your sensitivity is not a flaw. It’s a power. Whether you’re just beginning to notice your intuition or have lived with them for years, honouring your experience is the first step in deepening your connection.
